Upcycling has always existed in every era that clothes were produced. In this workshop we will focus on visible mending and the art behind slow stitching, and why we love it. We encourage you to bring a well-loved garment that we can fix up together, but if not, we have plenty of denim and supplies for us to work on!
Hosted at [x]space at 5137 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA. This space is a dedicated arts hub managed and curated by Youth Art Exchange, a non-profit providing free arts education to public high school students in San Francisco.
Formerly a meat market, this space now houses a number of after-school art classes, including printmaking and music production, after lying vacant for several years.
In addition to art classes, [x]space also serves as a gathering space and gallery for people of the Excelsior and San Francisco of all identities and houses 11 Wrkshop’s art studio.
Since opening in 2018, [x]space has hosted several shows and events, ranging from food justice workshops to a youth digital music festival -- and everything in between.
Available for rentals, [x]space is becoming a fixture of the Excelsior, making the arts and creative expression more accessible to all in the neighborhood.
