Description

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is America’s largest and most effective youth conservation service organization. SCA conserves lands and transforms lives by empowering young people of all backgrounds to plan, act, and lead, while they protect and restore our natural and cultural resources. Founded in 1957, SCA’s mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders. For more, visit www.thesca.org. WHAT: Volunteers from throughout the capital region area will remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by staging a massive clean-up along the Anacostia River in Washington, DC. We are happy to return to Anacostia Park for the first year since 2019. This SCA DC project will transform a crucial community greenspace while promoting the connections between social and environmental justice. Participants in past events have included Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, Corporation for National and Community Service/AmeriCorps Chief Executive Officer Wendy Spencer, and others. WHEN: Monday, January 16th, 9 AM-12 PM WHERE: Anacostia Park, 1500 Anacostia Drive, Washington, DC 20020. BRING WITH YOU: Wear long pants and sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring extra layers and a hat to prepare for the cold weather! Please also bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated. Thank you to our community partner, Friends of Anacostia Park, in supporting this day of service.
