Parking: FREE!
Event Info: Let’s hike another great trail on the Hillsborough County Parks Annual Hiking Spree, on a 3.1 mile guided hike through Wortham Park on the Bluestem Hiking Trail, and the Sand Pine Trail through the adjacent Rhodine Scrub Preserve.
This hike is open to everyone, but we will be joined by Hillsborough County Pet Resources, as we welcome and encourage everyone to bring their favorite canine companion and help them earn their 2023 Official Canine Hiker bandana!
We will meet at the TRAILHEAD Kiosk located in the main parking lot. Trail conditions are usually dry this time of year, but hikers are encouraged to properly prepare with sturdy shoes. Portions of the trail can also be sunny, so hats, glasses, bug spray, sunscreen, their own water bottle and extra for any pups, are highly recommended as well. Water and facilities are available near the trailhead.
Hiking Spree Info: HCFLGov.net/HikingSpree. Participants have until March 31st to complete 8 hikes on designated trails in order to earn their annual hiking shield, and Official Canine Hiker bandana.
Park Info: A shallow creek meanders through the 107 acre Wortham Park, which offers plenty of amenities: restrooms, a picnic shelter, 5 miles of hiking trails (includes the adjacent 500 acre Rhodine Scrub Preserve), playground, and basketball court. The 5.7-acre lake with a canoe launch, is filled with bass, catfish, and bream. Much of the park's undeveloped natural terrain is typical of Florida's hardwood hammocks and wet prairies. Visitors will find sand, slash, and longleaf pines; live, water, and scrub oaks; lots of saw palmetto and other understory plants; and animals such as gopher tortoises, box turtles, foxes, red-shouldered hawks and bald eagles.
