The evening Program includes:
I. Mental Health History, Signs, and Symptoms
Learn how mental illness presents itself in the Black and African American communities. Learn about common signs and symptoms and the history that has prevented many individuals from seeking support.II. School to Prison Pipeline & Breaking the Cycle
Black and African Americans represent 13% of the U.S. general population, and nearly 40%of the prison population. Learn how mental health has impacted this crisis and how to break the cycle.III. Community Resources and The NAMI Connection
Learn about the grassroots NAMI Organization, community resources, support groups, and navigating through the mental health crisis in Richland County.IV. Awards, Lived Experience, and Open Forum
Join us in celebrating three local individuals who have made a positive impact on the Black community. Listen to two courageous individuals tell their mental health journeys with a forum to ask questions pertaining to mental health.Doors will open at 4:45pm for the Welcome Reception and the presentation will begin at 5:30pm. Heavy hors d'oeuvres, water and tea will be available. This is a FREE symposium and does require registration
