Description

The Black LGBTQ Human Book Experience A Chance to “Unbias” Someone – Join the conversation for Social Change. Welcome to our Black LGBTQ Human Book Experience. This experience helps to create safer spaces for dialogue where topics are discussed openly with our human books and their readers. Participants are all volunteers with personal lived experiences on their topic. The Black LGBTQ Human Book Experience is where difficult questions are expected, appreciated, and answered. This experience is a hands-on learning platform via personal conversations to challenge stigma and stereotypes. Every human book represents a group in our society that is often subjected to prejudice, stigmatization, or discrimination because of their lifestyle, diagnosis, belief, disability, social status, ethnic origin, etc. This event is an adaptation of the Human Library, or “Menneskebiblioteket” as it is called in Danish, created in Copenhagen in the spring of 2000.  3pm will kick off with our poetry slam with community members sharing their work and reading pieces of art that have inspired them to reach Black Excellence 4pm will begin the Black Human Book experience with conversations with actual books that represent various Black identities 5pm will announce the winners of the poetry slam, raffles, networking and social connections. We hope you will enjoy.
