Please visit www.mediationservice.org for more details and to the registration link. *Minimum of 6 participants is needed to host the training- cancellation will be determined 7 days prior if not enough sign ups. In this training participants will learn the foundational elements of circle-keeping, learn the structure and importance of pre-sessions, and gain resources and skills to hold their own circle or restorative chat. Participants will review the foundation of Restorative Practices, their indigenous roots, and discuss the significance and benefits of circle keeping to reduce conflict and resolve harm that has been caused. By the end of this training participants will be able to : Name the elements important to the circle process Understand how circles are used in society Gain skills to facilitate a pre-session, circle, and a restorative chat Be able to facilitate circles on their own Dates: *Only chose 1 session date February 21st, 2023 IN PERSON 3PM-6PM CST June 20th, 2023 IN PERSON 3PM-6PM CST October 17th, 2023 IN PERSON 3PM-6PM CST Meet the trainers: Dr. Raj (he/him/they) Recovering Criminologist Raj is a recovering criminologist, alcoholic, and survivor of sexual abuse, with over 20 years of community-based activism as a researcher and educator. Inspired by our youth's resilience and the men in our prison systems, he trains school staff, probation agents, community members, and justice personnel on restorative practices, trauma and healing, value-centered leadership, community building, and unpacking implicit biases. He believes in raising consciousness utilizing the restorative circle process. In his latest work, raj explores our justice system's depths and creates a framework in which knowledge, critical consciousness, and heart become the root of our practices. Cassie K. Restorative Practice Coordinator Cassie is the Restorative Practices Coordinator at MARS. She oversees our juvenile diversion program, facilitates restorative conferences, and provides training, coaching, and assists in the implementation of restorative practices in Anoka County schools. Cassie recognizes the impact a punitive and inequitable education & justice system can have on youth and how a restorative approach to discipline encourages accountability and repair and empowers individuals to pursue and accomplish their goals. She firmly believes in the importance of individual narratives and focuses on establishing courageous space. Cassie encourages participants to embrace their own story and experience and strives to create a space rooted in individual growth, accountability, connection and making amends.
