Description

"Work in Roots of Knowledge and Preparing for Meaningful Work," presented by Dr. Doug GardnerAs we look at Roots of Knowledge, we see people going about their work and the result of their work. In some instances, we see work being done by people for hire, and we see people doing work that is meaningful. Sometimes the meaning is derived out of a need for survival, struggle, power, beauty, faith, or adventure. For whatever reason the work is being done, lack of or presence of meaning and purpose help explain individual motivation. The college students we learn and work with are likewise seeking for meaning and purpose in their lives.About Dr. Bruce WilsonDouglas S. Gardner is an associate professor in the Department of Student Leadership and Success Studies at Utah Valley University. He teaches Major and Career Exploration, Capstone, and Research Methods courses. His research includes student retention in higher education, career development, and reading motivation for young readers.______________________About Roots of KnowledgeRoots of Knowledge is a sweeping stained-glass panorama of history and human drama. The intricate details incorporated into every window represent years of painstaking research on the events and people that shaped humankind from the days of wooly mammoths and cavemen to the iPhone. Created by Holdman Studios and installed at the UVU Fulton Library in 2016, this artistic landmark comprises 80 individual panes and took 12 years to complete. For information on where to park at UVU, please visit https://www.uvu.edu/parking/visitor-parking.html.
