To commemorate Black History Month, Unity Palo Alto is pleased to announce a FREE, live performance of the play Words That Made the Difference: “Brown v. Board of Education.” This play has been touring the U.S. and is now being brought to Palo Alto. Performed one night only, this is an opportunity to see history come alive! 6:15 - 6:45 PM Q&A with Dr. Cindy Acker 7:00 - 9:00 PM Performance (with no intermission) 9:00 - 9:30 PM Q&A with the cast This play is based on actual events in the fight to end school segregation. The script draws from trial transcripts of the five cases that were brought together before the Supreme Court. Included are the words of Thurgood Marshall and Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren, bookends in the fight for the desegregation of schools, culminating in the famous Brown vs. the Board of Education decision in 1954. We encourage attendees to view the Cast List and Playbill Dr. Cindy Acker, Ed.D. (Playwright and Director) is a five-time award-winning educator, author, and playwright. Vocally trained by the late Johnny Land, she has sung with the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, the Glide Ensemble, Unity In Marin, and the MCC Worship and Praise Choir of San Francisco. She has led and toured with three choirs, performing in the Governor’s chambers on behalf of marriage equality. Cindy has produced an Emmy award-winning feature entitled "Creative Parenting,” and has written several plays, performed in the US and Canada, including an award-winning musical entitled, "In Our Hands."
