Description

Join us on Saturday, February 18 at 9:00 am as we honor the life and legacy of Maurice "Tony" Miller during our 1st Annual “ Tony’s Walk". With the support of his family, friends, and community the walk will be held annually moving forward. We will honor Tony's Life by giving to transplant recipients and supporting organ donors. All funds raised from this event will go towards Donate Life and assist transplant recipients with necessary expenses. Tony was the epitome of a good man; he was honest, kind, and REAL. He never met a stranger, having the ability to meet people where they were with a smile on his face and a joke in his back pocket. On August 21, 2021, Tony was admitted to the hospital for heart complications. It was during this time that Tony's walk with Christ would be tested like never before. Through nine surgeries, two transplants, and six months in ICU he never complained. He walked out his favorite scripture, Matthew 6:33 "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you". Tony's walk is a metaphor for his journey through life, challenges, and hardships. Taking every day as a new opportunity to strive toward greatness. While in the hospital he faced many challenges but one of his main focuses was to gain enough strength to walk around the ICU a full lap. This small task would be the largest barrier standing between him and his transplant surgery. Standing up and walking is such a routine task but it is not until this gift is taken away from you that you see the joy in just taking a step or walking outside. After his heart and kidney transplant, he went to rehab for two months to gain the strength to finish his walk. Later passing away in June of 2022 from cancer. His strength was given to him not to stay here on this earth but to show that miracles happen every day to ordinary people. Tony’s walk showed us how to persevere when the odds are stacked against us, to wake up every day and do our best, and to seek God in all that we do. Simply put Tony loved serving people and God. We can show that we loved him and will never forget his joy of life and his love of service. Show your support by joining family, friends, and all that were touched by his life and his walk by walking, donating, or both. The walk will begin at the Shelby Law Enforcement Center (100 Justice Place Shelby NC ) ending at Shelby High School (230 E. Dixon Blvd). There is a $25.00 registration fee, including a tee shirt for those walking. Youth 13 and younger are free using the promo code KIDS23. Those opting not to walk can donate to $Tonyswalk via Cash App, but still, come out to support and cheer the walkers on at any point during the walk. As he so eloquently would say, “Live your Life”, let’s help someone live their best life like he would have wanted us to. Registration is open and active to everyone both young and old. We encourage YOU to be in that number. RAIN OR SHINE Thank You In advance, looking forward to seeing you. Maya & Oveda Miller (Tony’s Heartbeats, daughter and wife of Tony Miller)
