What federal funding are we applying for exactly? It’s through the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (commonly referred to as Perkins V), which is a bipartisan reauthorization of previous Carl D. Perkins federal programs. Funding for Perkins V represents the largest federal investment in career and technical education provided to states.
The purpose of Perkins V is to (1) develop challenging academic and technical skills that prepare students for employment in high skill, high wage or in-demand occupations; (2) Provide services and activities designed to develop, implement and improve Career and Technical Education; (3) Support partnerships between secondary and postsecondary institutions, local workforce investment boards, business and industry, and; (4) Increase employment opportunities for populations who are chronically unemployed or underemployed, including individuals with disabilities, individuals with economic disadvantaged families, out-of-workforce individuals, youth who are in or have aged out of foster care, and homeless individuals.
Your participation and feedback are vital to our grant application efforts. If you would please take the time to attend a focus group in order to ensure our technical college is offering relevant academic programs, we would greatly appreciate it.
