Description
Hi,
we are looking for a part-time (10-20 hours/week, flexibly) farmhand for our homestead and hobby farm in Greenback. Familiarity with organic/permacultural practices necessary, including composting and an interest in avoiding most herbicides and pesticides. We prefer some experience with:
--animal husbandry (poultry and goats particularly)
--vegetable and herb gardening
--fruit tree/soft fruit production
--honeybees
--carpentry
--forestry/forest products
--operation of power tools, small engines, chainsaws, hand tools
--farmsitting
Lacking experience in any of the above areas is ok. What is necessary is a willingness to learn, ask questions, and be proactive in seeking information--we'll be learning along the way as well as sharing and teaching. Being a creative, inquisitive self-starter is a must, as we will often work separately or be gone from the property, and you'll sometimes be tasked with cobbling things together with few instructions.
Pay is $20/hr, plus a portion of sales of any products. Though we're primarily a homestead, we have several projects in the works with small-scale market potential. Other perks include some meals, a relaxed work environment, and a dedicated garden space of your own.
Additionally, and importantly, we're looking for someone who will enjoy working with us, and who we enjoy! We are nonreligious, quirky, artsy people, and seek to hire someone who generally shares our values. If you're not sure whether that sounds like fun (because we think it's great to like what you do for a living), this might not be a good fit for you. If this progresses into a friendship, all the better.
Please respond with a bit about your relevant background, along with anything else you think we might like to know, and any questions!
