Ethical Culture is the oldest nontheistic religion in the Western world. Unlike the nontheism that undergirds Buddhism and Confucianism and some other Eastern Religions, the roots of nontheistic religion in the West actually come out of theistic religion. The purpose of this deeper-dive session led by Curt Collier is twofold: first to present a brief history of progressive religion in America and its contribution to the rise of secularism, and second to consider how some of the central ideas of secularism have been shaped so much by theism that a more purely nontheistic religion is now called for.
