Nutrition 101: This is our first installment, in a series of nutrition focused seminars, aiming to give you the tools you need to succeed both in the gym and in the kitchen. Agenda: What you'll learn: (Lecture from 10:00am - 11:30am (ish) - Fundamental of Nutrition Calculations: caloric requirements for weight gain and weight loss. - Understanding macros and how it applies to your athletic needs. - Discuss meal frequency and meal timing. - Identify key supplements to aid in recovery and nutrient absorption. Lunch Break: 11:30ish - 12:00ish (meal included with registration, although your're welcome to bring your own: we have a microwave and a refrigerator. There will also be time to run and grab something quick) Case Study (from Dr. Waldman) - covers examples of how to calculate caloric requirements and macros based on goals. Q&A: (12:30pm - 1:00pm) - Feel free to bring supplements, food journals, and any other relevant data that you'd like an extra set of eyes on. - This is your time to get answers from an industry expert, so have some topics ready that you'd like to discuss. About our speaker: Hunter Waldman, Phd, CSCS*D joined the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Alabama as an assistant professor in 2019. He obtained his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from Mississippi State University with a concentration in Nutrition and currently serves the department as the Director of the Exercise Science Biochemistry Laboratory. Dr. Waldman's research interests center around exercise and nutrition interventions to modify various aspects of health (i.e. metabolic flexibility, inflammation, oxidative stress, and performance in various populations e.g. tactical populations, females, and clinical.) He is actively involved in the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a former sweat scientists for the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. Outside of academia, Dr. Waldman actively trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and enjoys all things outdoors with his wife and their miniature Schnauzer. Research Interests: Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, Cardiometabolic Diseases, Inflammation, and Oxidative Stress.
