Port Discovery Children's Museum, one of the top Children's Museum in the United States and a top cultural institution in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our Facilities team as our Facilities & Exhibits Maintenance Technician. The Museum provides experiences that ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play. Summary of the Job: The Facilities & Exhibits Maintenance Technician helps us achieve our mission of providing a safe, smart place to engage in child-driven playful learning. This position is responsible for construction, repair, and maintenance of the museum building and exhibits. Must know and adhere to safety protocol in handling machinery, electrical equipment and power tools. Occasionally, the Facilities & Exhibit Maintenance Technician will need to drive the company van for repair or other related events. This position is categorized as "Essential Services" and must be available for on-site work in inclement weather. This is a full time 40-hour per week position. The museum can be open as many as 7 days per week. Therefore, we are looking for someone that can work a very flexible schedule. Weekend work will be required, and evening work may be occasionally necessary for special events. The hourly pay range for this position is $18 - $19, based on experience. Sampling of Responsibilities & Duties: Maintain a building and grounds maintenance program through regularly scheduled inspections and documentation for submittal to the Facility Manager. Perform basic building and facilities maintenance, including painting, lighting, minor electrical, plumbing and woodworking as needed. Participate in all phases of exhibit installation, including exhibit demolition, site preparation and exhibit component installation in partnership with the Exhibits Team. Inspect exhibits and mend worn or broken components in partnership with the Exhibits Team. Innovate solutions for damaged or broken facility items. Basic/General building construction knowledge including drywall work. Exterior building tasks such as weeding or minor painting will occasionally be required. Adhere to safety protocol at all times and encourage others to respect safety standards and precautions. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Two years of experience in HVAC, carpentry, metal work, patching & painting, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance are required. Candidates should have basic/general building construction knowledge including drywall work. Successful candidates will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds Candidates should be self-motivated and innovative. Strong attention to detail is necessary and the ability to focus and to complete projects in a timely manner is essential. Candidates should be flexible in scheduling and will be required to work weekends; potentially will work evenings for special events. High School diploma required; college degree or vocational certificate is preferred. Qualities of being innovative and having a good sense of humor are essential. This position requires a valid driver's license and clean driving record. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. Climbing and crawling through tight spaces. Use of ladders and lifts to high elevations; ascend and descend scaffolding and stairs; carry equipment and supplies throughout the building. Fear of heights or confined spaces could create a significant hardship. Use of light power tools and operation of machinery. Requires protective clothing and equipment during exposure to machines, dust, chemicals and solvents.
