Description

Be our valentine! Join us for an afternoon cup of tea (and local baked goodies) and then a talk on the history of tea and tour of the historic family floor of Layton Castle. The Spice and Tea Exchange's Karen Laban will be co-hosting. Bring your sweetheart, friends, and a favorite teacup to tell us about! Limited seating. Learn about Layton Castle's evolution from a creole cottage to a castle. Learn about Swiss immigrant Judge Henry Bry and his role in helping to develop Northern Louisiana and beyond. What role did he play in Fort Miro changing its name to Monroe? One of the few historic homes in the United States still lived in by descendants of the first European settlers. Layton Castle sits on 5 acres of gardens and ancient trees and hosts a family cemetery, a 1780s wine house and historic bottle museum, a converted carriage house for short stays and small events - and apartments. The tour includes visiting the family floor with its Victorian parlor, library full of 1800s books, Audubon dining room and more. Note: The tour requires climbing stairs to the second floor.
