Description
"Food is one part of the experience. And it has to be somewhere between 50 to 60 percent of the dining experience. But the rest counts as well: The mood, the atmosphere, the music, the feeling, the design, the harmony between what you have on the plate and what surrounds the plate. - Author: Alain Ducasse" Join us for a special night as we open our second year of Les Contes de Galerie (Stories on the Porch) with special guest, REX MOROUX, on Saturday, February 11th. There was a time when it seemed like Lori and I traveled the universe to hear live music. In the early 2000's we had this weird stretch where the opening artists, who we often didn't know even existed, had more memorable performances that the bands that we were there to see . I didn't quite know what it was then. However, now, after having time to reminisce, I realize that it was special because they were still crafting their songs, they still had this raw and stripped down sound that was honest, they were still honing and shaping their music and their vulnerability from that process would draw you in 100%. I still remember Joe Purdy (whom opened up for the Blues Traveler) when he preformed at the Varsity in 2006. His opening song was Come Down. I'd never had a listening room experience, and to have it in such a vast and usually loud venue made even more powerful and special. Rex Moroux reminds me of Joe Purdy - not only in his voice and how he crafts his songs, but in possessing that magical talent to make time stand still when he's playing. Check out his live performance of December 24 below and get prepared to get the frissons, or maybe drunk, or both. Here are a few lines: Central Park looms dead as night when the clouds come rolling through I've got red and green and alcohol but all I want is you Saturday Rex Moroux will play a few songs, talk about his songs, share his relationships with them and share stories of his favorite childhood food memories which Chefs C.J Pothier and Greg Walls will recreate (price includes food). Doors open @ 6:00 PM. Show starts @ 6:45 PM( ish) Rex Moroux BIO Rex Moroux was born and raised in Lafayette. After moving to Los Angeles in his early 20s he began writing and performing songs. He eventually found himself in Austin, TX and recorded his 1st album 105 and a Lullaby in Nashville. After touring for a few years he recorded his 2nd album in Nashville Royal Street Inn. This garnered him a wider touring base and led to his 3rd album These Bricks Are Bleeding recorded in New York City. This album was released on GO! Records out of Amsterdam and Rex toured Central Europe for several months until finally ending up back in Lafayette in 2011. Since 2012 he has embarked on his 2nd career in Commercial Real Estate and raised a family. Music, however, is never far from his heart. December 24
