Be very careful ruling Donald Trump out. He always seems to land on his feet, doesn't he? No criminal charges, no political investigation, nothing seems to stick to the Teflon Don. The Republican Party is such a party in disarray, they can hardly elect a Speaker. The ugly divisiveness and infighting is rending them. The GOP understands with public sentiment going south and all, their only hope of winning a '24 White House bid may be Trump again. And if he wins, I can assure you it will be four (or more) years of lame duck, resentment gathering against his pretenemies (those who have the audacity to confront his lunacy.) And once again, he will allow others to do his dirty work, then throw them under the bus as he did post Jan. 6.
