Join us in solidarity for the 4th Annual Juneteenth Solidarity Ride! This 13 mile ride commemorates Juneteenth, now observed as a federal holiday. This is an inclusive, family friendly, casual, no-drop ride. Helmets are required. Traffic laws will be followed. Snacks and water provided. T-shirts are available for purchase.
WHERE: This FREE ride will begin and end in Shawnee Park with turnaround in Willow Park. Riders can also extend their experience with additional miles. See route options below.
WHEN: Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Shawnee Park, Louisville, KY.
TIME: On-site registration at 8am. Wheels down at 9 AM. Meet at restrooms across from football field in Shawnee Park.
WHY: We ride for health, fitness and awareness of Juneteenth, an American federal holiday celebrated on June 19th.
Although the Emancipation Proclamation was signed January 1, 1863, it would be 2 1/2 years later that Texas the most remote of the union states would receive the news. It would be on June 19, 1865 that enslaved African-Americans In Galveston Houston received news that they were free people. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2020.
