On January 27, 1945, the concentration camp and crematoria at Auschwitz were liberated by the Red Army as World War II neared its end. This event brought to worldwide attention the horrific scale of atrocities committed by the Nazi Party against the Jews and others. We will mark this somber day with a sung evening service (like Evensong), including prayers for our Jewish brothers and sisters who died in World War II, for world peace, and for concord among people of all religious faiths. As anti-Semitism again rises in this country and in Europe, we will acknowledge that long-standing Christian anti-Judaism played into the Nazi genocide and that many Christians were complicit in the atrocities of anti-Semitism in World War II.
