Hairstyle for ten year old boy

I have a ten year old son. He wears his hair in a little boy's bowl haircut. A lot of his friends are getting their hair cut shorter, like crew cuts or ivy league cuts. I talked to my son and asked if he wanted to get his hair cut in a shorter style and he said yes. However when I spoke with my wife Cheryl about this she did not like the idea. Cheryl says no, that bowlcuts are in style for little boys. The only issue at hand here is that I am not inclined to trust Cheryl on the matter of style. Cheryl has no fashion sense whatsoever. She has her hair all up in little curls, gelled and styled back in a hairdo popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Here's a picture of Cheryl.
