Make no mistake. Under the right leadership, the Republican congress is unstoppable. John Boehner knew how to keep the pesky congressmen in order. His "Just say no" campaign against President Obama was remarkable. But a new wave came in, not politically experienced, young, bright lawyers who did not like the bureaucracy, and were in your face confrontational. So ruthless the combat, Boehner resigned, leaving one of their own (Tea Party poster child Paul Ryan) the Speaker. The fighting continued between Boehner loyalists and the Tea Party, however, which created such a chasm, Donald Trump marched right up the middle and took over. The irony, now McCarthy, the last strong hold of the extinct Tea Party is being ushered out by Trump loyalists. When we are on death's door, a world war, a famine beyond comprehension, financial collapse, invasion, lethal virus.... we are truly united and at our best. Any other time? The bored, uninterested electorate could not be bothered by what politicians do. Sad, really.
