Description

Jude is a 3 year old neutered male, 3/4 great pyrenees and 1/4 catahoula, located in north Durham. He is a beautiful dog, on the smaller side for a pyrenees at about 86 lbs and has a relatively short coat for his breed with a fancy curved tail. He's a very sweet dog who loves other dogs and all humans, and simply needs more space and more stability than we can give him; my partner and I both travel a lot for work in a way that has really increased in the last year. He's a leaner and though he will bark and guard space against intruders, will wag and push his body up against you once he realizes you're one of his people or one of his people's people. He's not at all destructive and would never destroy a house or try to escape the fence. If he did, I'm positive he'd find the front porch and sit on it for hours. True to his breed, he is excellent with livestock (loves being with and would never chase our chickens) and often chooses to stay outside despite the cold. He is also an inside dog and often snuggles up with his humans and other dogs. We've taken him on many adventures and exposed him to different situations, and he tends to do well. He's excellent in the car, but requires a strong handler on the lead. He can be reactive and prefers to have a consistent alpha on walks. It's important to note that he is food aggressive and will sometimes guard his bed as well. Because of this, he must be fed by an adult in a safe space, and must not be touched or approached while eating. In general, we try to give him attention when he's seeking it and not otherwise. We love Jude and do not want to re-home him, but are doing what's best for him. He needs space, consistency, and he would love to have animals to take care of and a family/dog friends to be inside with at night. He is up to date on shots, will come with his harness/leash and favorite toys that he's had since birth. Small re-homing fee is negotiable for the right home, and we are willing to let a family give him a shot on a "trial period" if that suits the situation.
