Have you ever had a recurring dream? Or wondered why we dream at all? Dreams are our brain’s way of processing emotions and solving problems. They’re there to build new neural connections and even help us heal from trauma. Before last year, I didn’t pay much attention to mine. I honestly thought lucid dreaming was pseudoscience. But after reading a 2009 study where they trained participants to become lucid enough to signal researchers and respond to stimuli, I started a dream journal. The more I’ve recorded, the more I’ve come to appreciate the power of dreams in changing the landscape of our thoughts.
Lucid dreaming is the practice of realizing that you’re dreaming, without waking up. The idea is that if you can change the course of a dream, you’re able to imprint new ideas and thoughts on your subconscious, the source of your inner voice. You can literally change your mind. Because every time you tell your subconscious something, you’re forming new neural networks in your brain. You’re building a brain that believes you are capable of things your waking self never thought possible. It’s a rare chance to shift your self perception and self talk, and to remove fears and doubts from your mind.
Lucid dreaming is an incredible opportunity to harness the power of thought - to reclaim your sense of self, unlock your potential, and move through roadblocks between you and the future you dream about. In this 90 minute talk, I will share 3 science backed secrets to having lucid dreams, give insights into common dream symbols, and offer a preview of the 4-week dream journaling program I’m hosting at the wellness center this February.
Join me in exploring the art of lucidity! Tuesday, January 26th, 7:30-9:30pm.
