PROGRAM LINEUP: 9-11 am CE Credit: 2 HRS SPEAKER: Dr. Robert “Ray” Caesar DDS, Orthodontist COURSE TITLE: "Airway Friendly Orthodontics: Breathe Better, Sleep Better, Feel Better...” COURSE DESCRIPTION: Course Description: Airway dysfunction and sleep disordered breathing were nebulous concepts to me after graduating dental school. Since then, my journey navigating through airway has highlighted the importance of early diagnosis. The common craniofacial phenotypes of airway patients put dentists in the best position of any other medical professional to screen, identify, and in some cases treat airway dysfunction. Please join our conversation to discuss how we apply modern perspectives and technology to decades of peer reviewed literature, with the ultimate goal of empowering all dental professionals to help their patients Breathe Better, Sleep Better, Feel Better. EDUCATION OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this course, the dental professional will be able to: 1. Why is it crucial to identify patients with airway dysfunction early? 2. Why the dental professional is in the best position to identify existing patients with airway dysfunction? 3. Explanation of screening tools and methods of Diagnosis for Sleep Disordered Breathing (including Obstructive Sleep Apnea) 4. Non-surgical (orthodontic) and surgical (ENT and orthognathic) solutions will be presented depending on patient’s presentation, symptoms, and age. 12-2 pm CE Credit: 2 HRS SPEAKER: Dr Tiffini Stratton DDS COURSE TITLE: “Sleep Disordered Breathing… signs and symptoms and treatment modalities “ DESCRIPTION: Dental professionals are critical to changing the landscape of sleep disordered breathing. You will learn what to look for and how to treat those patients. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of the course, the dental provider will be able to: 1) Identify which patients should be screened for sleep apnea. 2) Understand the important role of dental professionals in screening patients for sleep disorders. 3) Understand the mechanism of action or oral sleep appliance therapy. 4) Understand the risks and benefits involved in both treating and not treating patients with OAT. 5) Understand the digital process to create an oral appliance. 2-4 pm CE Credit: 2 HRS SPEAKER: Lisa Mayo, RDH, BSDH, MHA COURSE TITLE: " Understanding & Applying the New 2018 AAP Classification in your Practice” COURSE DESCRIPTION: In 2018, the American Academy of Periodontology released their new classification system for periodontal conditions. It is out with the old 1999 classification system and in with the new. Many changes were made, new categories were developed, and language was adjusted for identifying and diagnosing periodontal conditions. It is now up to the dental professional to learn the new system and apply its diagnostic criteria in patient treatment planning and record keeping. This course will present the four categories in the new classification system, guide practitioners in applying the system into clinical practice, and introduce contemporary medicaments from evidence-based research used in the treatment and management of epithelial diseases. EDUCATION OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this course, the dental professional will be able to: 1. Identify the four categories of the 2018 AAP classification system. 2. Apply the new classification system in record keeping using current and accurate diagnostic language. 3. Correlate periodontal and implant status with appropriate treatment interventions. 4. Integrate non-mechanical debridement medicaments such as hydrogen peroxide used in treatment of epithelial disease around natural teeth and dental implants.
