Are you a youth birder looking to connect with the Indiana birding community at large? Look no further than the Indiana Young Birders Network! The Indiana Young Birders Network is a free Indiana Audubon sponsored community working to connect Indiana youth birders and nature enthusiasts alike to the birding world! Our goal is to create a safe, fun, and innovative environment for youth birders to grow and learn with hands-on field birding experience, educational demonstrations, and much more!
The IYBN is having their first official hike on Sunday, January 22nd, 2023 at the Eagle Creek Ornithology Center. We will be meeting outside of the Ornithology Center at 10:00am and will kickstart the hike with introductions as well as a brief overview of the IYBN's goals/aspirations. We will plan to bird around the cofferdam loop for waterfowl, gulls, finches, and any other winter bird species we can find. We expect to hike no more than 1.7 miles on mostly level terrain. This trail is not wheel-chair accessible due to a small fraction of the trail being uphill/downhill.
Those who already own a pair of binoculars feel free to bring them. We will have a limited supply of binoculars that can be borrowed, if you do not have a pair. A scope will be provided for viewing distant birds that are seen throughout the hike. Dress warm!
This is a perfect opportunity to see some of Indiana's most iconic winter birds while getting to know other youth birders from around the state! Registration is required but there is no fee to attend the hike. Parents are more than welcome to join us!
