Her mission was simple–to instill hope in everyone. In 2004, Katarzyna Weresz (Kasia Wereszczynska) began working in the field of mental health. She is the founder of Counseling Speaks, a multicultural group practice serving the Chicago metropolitan area with locations in Chicago, Park Ridge, Barrington and Lake Forest. She has extensive training and 20+ years' experience in crisis intervention, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and positive psychology. She has provided counseling to a culturally diverse population serving the South Side of Chicago and the North Shore area. She has a history of working in various settings including the mental health court system, hospital emergency rooms, community mental health agencies, schools and both inpatient/outpatient psychiatric hospital settings. She worked as a SASS worker for over 6 years. Weresz graduated with her Master's from the Illinois School of Psychology in 2008. Katarzyna has served on the Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) International Counselor Community Engagement Committee, Illinois Diversity in Leadership Task Force Committee, and the Argosy University Counselor Education Advisory Board. She is past President of both the Chicago Counseling Association (CCA) and the Illinois Association of Multicultural Counseling (IAMC). She was elected as President of the Illinois Counseling Association and decided to take a break from some of her leadership commitments to focus more on her family and personal development. Katarzyna is an international speaker with noted presentations in the US, Poland, Italy, Canada, Switzerland, and Hungary to mention a few. She is also the founder of In Her Shoes Foundation 501c(3) nonprofit organization that empowers and inspires every woman and girl to be her personal best. In addition, she teaches psychology classes at the University of St. Francis and Oakton Community College. Katarzyna’s philosophy is that counseling is not just a profession–it is a way of life. That is, to inspire change in others, one must believe and act in accordance with what it is one can see others becoming. The role of a counselor extends well beyond sitting in a chair behind a desk with a client lying on the couch. Rather, it is being actively involved in the community as an advocate, serving as a leader, educating, researching and assessing the needs of entire populations, and so on. Further, and most importantly, it is believing that change is possible. Thus, she decided to build a better practice–one that instills hope in everyone. Here at Counseling Speaks, we believe that “There is always hope for change.” They make it a goal to ensure that their clients and everyone else they come in contact will believe it. Thus, “Counseling Speaks” to every facet of life. Counseling Speaks is a holistic counseling, consultation, coaching, supervision, and psychoeducational clinic that continually strives to enhance the mental health and overall well-being of individuals.
