Invasive species are a major problem worldwide. In north Florida, invasive plants and animals are known to cause harm to our unique ecosystems and can be very costly to control. Unfortunately, many of these invasive species begin their spread form urban areas, especially urban landscapes.
During this workshop, we will review
invasive species terminology, the most common invasive plants and animals of north Florida,the impacts these species have on natural ecosystems,why they are so good at invading,how to minimize their spread through prevention and control, methods of chemical control, including chemical control safety practices, andprovide additional resources to educate homeowners and interested citizens about invasive species management.Participants will be able to recieve a small spray bottle and chemical resistant gloves to aid in chemical control of invasive woody plants.
