WALTHAM, MA —A driver crashed into Dion's Liquor Store on Lexington on Saturday afternoon while customers were inside, sending one employee to the hospital and destroying shelves of inventory.
At least one employee was injured Saturday, but staff at Dion's described the injuries as scrapes.
Employees at Dion's said the store reopened Sunday, and customers are showing up, but they are spending the day cleaning up the broken glass.
Several people called 911 just before 2:20 p.m. Saturday, to report a car had driven into the store in Walex Plaza, according to Matthew Carter.
When emergency responders got there, they found the gray sedan had driven over the small curb and halfway through the windows of the shop.
The two occupants of the car, both older, were trapped inside because of the way some of the facade beams fell on the car, according to Lt. Scott Perry a spokesperson for the Waltham Fire Department.
Firefighters were able to use tools to get the two out of the car, and both were able to walk away, refusing medical care, Perry said.
