Andover Choral Society, directed by Matthew Buono, will perform the magnificent Ein Deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at West Middle School in Andover. The concert soloists will be soprano Dana Varga and baritone Philip Lima, and the chorus will be accompanied by a professional chamber orchestra.
Ein Deutsches Requiem is one of Brahms’ most famous and well-loved choral works. The lush, dramatic music, written when Brahms was in his thirties, conveys a universal message of consolation and hope, offering comfort to all who mourn and feel the pain of loss.
This event will be a celebration of a new chapter in Andover Choral Society’s 93-year history as the Music Director, Matthew Buono, conducts his first concert with the chorus. Buono is an accomplished bass-baritone who regularly performs with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops as a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.
Concert tickets are available for $25 in advance ($30 at the door) and $10 for students. A group rate of tentickets for $20 each is also available.
West Middle School is located at 70 Shawsheen Road in Andover, MA, and is handicapped accessible. Off-street parking is available in the school’s parking lot. As of now, audience members will be asked to wear masks during the performance but we will make a final determination closer to the date of the concert.
