Learn woodworking skills while making a beautiful box with sliding lid. In this workshop you will use the miter saw, router table, drill press, and brad nailers to construct the box. The box has a sliding lid and the dimensions can be customized to fit your needs (max box size is 14" x 10" x 5"). If time permits, you will be able to sand your box and apply a coat of polyurethane or oil to finish it. At the end of the workshop you will leave with some new skills and a beautifully finished wood box that you can gift to someone else or keep for yourself to hold your favorite things. All materials are included in the cost of the class. This class is open to all! No woodworking experience required.
About the Instructor:
My name is Ben Dendy and I am excited to be one of the instructors at Community Workshop NOLA. I have participated in many woodworking projects since I was a little kid. I would help my dad make things and he taught me how to properly use different wood working tools safely. Since then I have developed my skills by completing my own projects. While woodworking was a hobby for me most of my life, I have almost always worked in the construction industry since graduating college with a degree in construction management. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach people the skills to make beautiful and useful objects out of wood.
