Black Heritage Month: Moving Beyond Bad History. Identity, Unity and Black Excellence. Join us for a conversation with leading civic leaders to discuss the bold and meaningful action on how to honor one’s ancestors, and what lessons should be passed down to the next generation. .The main objectives of the summit is to promote a greater knowledge of history and respect for the diverse heritage, culture and contribution of people of African descent to the development of societies. Black Heritage Month is observed for the month of February every year. People celebrate Black Heritage Month and throughout the year to reflect on more than 400 years of American African history and heritage that have shaped the American culture as we know it today.
Africans and African Americans know little of each other, and what we do know is filtered through the distorted lens of Western media stereotypes. Until we start listening to each other’s stories, our hopes for a united Africa will remain a dream.
