Description

Learn the art of Italian-Style Printed Cloth! Instructor: Francine Mastrangelo The history of block printing dates back thousands of years. In this class you will learn all the steps to create your own Italian-style linen napkins - art that you will live with and use! Depending on how quickly the class progresses, you’ll have the option of printing up to 4 napkins to take home. We will learn how to transfer a provided design to a 4” x 4” block and carve a rubber block. If you wish, you can bring your simple 4” x 4” design for the transfer. Francine Mastrangelo is a creative and skilled printmaker with many years of experience. She will teach you how to fine-tune your carving for the best results on your printed pieces. Next, you’ll learn the ink transfer process while you print your own linen napkins. You’ll have an array of colors to choose from. Each student will go home with a set of carving tools that can be used to create again at home! “When I think of a block print, a few things come to my mind: the exquisite design, color, composition, and the hand and heart of a craftsperson.” Preeti Gopinath Class date: February 12, 2023 Class time: 1:00 – 4:00 pm Materials: the cost of the class includes all materials. The carving tool will be yours to keep when you leave the class. We will provide aprons, but suggest you wear clothing that might look better with a few paint smudges.Class fee: $68 (includes all materials including blocks, carving tools, ink and linen napkins) Class instructor Francine Mastrangelo holds a Bachelor of Art degree in Drawing and Printmaking from the State University of New York at Fredonia.
