In this hands-on experiential session, participants will learn how to effectively problem solve and create innovative solutions to complex problems utilizing the process of human-centered design. Participants will also learn essential customer discovery and empathy-building tools, problem identification and redefinition skills, ideation practices, and methods for rapid prototyping. Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to: • Apply the human-centered design approach to innovation • Engage in qualitative customer discovery tools • Learn ideation and creativity cultivation processes • Practice and develop rapid prototyping skills • Produce a creative, human-centered solution to a real-world problem Instructor: Rachel Sullivant has been an integral part of the Walton College and Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Arkansas since 2017, with interests and experience focused on innovation and social entrepreneurship. Along with her work leading Design Teams in the Innovation Studio, she has helped build ENACTUS programs for John Brown University and the University of Arkansas. Prior to higher education, she worked in both leadership development and the aerospace industry as a financial analyst. Rachel is a licensed attorney with a degree in corporate finance and investments, an MBA with a concentration in international business, and a JD from the University of Arkansas School of Law. Rachel is passionate about student development, human-centered design, equity in innovation, and the intersection of law and innovation.
