We’re meeting the first Thursday of each month, at the Signal Cover Clubhouse to discuss the book of the month. For our first meeting, December 1st, we are reading “The Demon in the Freezer”. The Demon in the Freezer is a 2002 non-fiction book on the biological weapon agents smallpox and anthrax and how the American government develops defensive measures against them written by journalist Richard Preston. The book deals mostly with the Smallpox Eradication Program that happened between 1967and 1980 and the controversy over whether or not the remaining samples of smallpox virus in Atlanta and Moscow should be finally destroyed.
