We are an Illinois licensed rescue, Garlan Henry Britton Animal Sanctuary, but we also own property in Madison. This beautiful girl has been with our licensed rescue for 1 year and we are just trying to get her more exposure. We agreed to take her to save her from euthanasia when she was in a rural shelter and had been there for a year. She has now been in a shelter and rescue setting for two years. She was given up by the farmer who owned her after he used her for puppies and then left her outside to starve. We REALLY NEED to find her THE RIGHT home. She is 6 years old, vaccinated, spayed, microchipped and otherwise healthy. She absolutely loves all people of all sizes. She is good with large breed dogs who are not too rambunctious - non alpha dogs. She is not good with cats, small dogs, or chickens, birds or rodents. The reason she needs a special home is because she was not raised indoors and taught how to live indoors. We did 2 trial adoptions and in both homes she tried breaking into cabinets and other storage where food was kept. She was fine with someone home during the day, but as soon as they went to sleep or went outside or wasn't keeping her in there sight, she went looking for food and counter surfing. We are HOPING to find someone who has a heated and cool shop on their property to keep her when they are sleeping and away from home or a clean basement area.She doesn't get into things or chew things up, she is really just food driven. We have had enough Hounds come through our rescue that we know as Hounds get older they become much more calm and easier to train to be trusted in the home. So we really are hoping for a home that can be patient in the immediate future and has a safe HUMANE place to keep her, but will spend as much time with her as possible and will train her to eventually be trusted when they can't watch her. We are also open to her going to an organization or trainer who trains scent dogs. She is not a good hunting dog because she is afraid of loud noises, like gun shots, but she is a great scent dog. She loves going for walks and tracking various scents. The reason she is urgent is because we are a small foster based rescue, we are fostering her ourselves and are both having serious health issues. It's becoming increasingly harder to walk this sweet girl and we do not want to euthanize her after all she has been through. She deserves a SAFE AND LOVING home or organization. We will deliver her ANYWHERE that is right for her, but we expect to be shown where she will be kept when you are not able to be with her.
