A term coined by Mark Dery in his 1993 book chapter “Black to the Future,” Afrofuturism is a cultural aesthetic that merges the history and heritage of the African diaspora with modern technology and science fiction themes. As part of our continued exploration of this emergent concept and popular genre, we’ve invited local creators to discuss what it means to reimagine the future across intersections of Hip-Hop, anime, literature, film, video games, and cosplay. After the discussion, stay and enjoy an electric set by DJ Freakish Nerd and dance the night away!
