It's a new year and the Group is so happy to have Linda Lombardo, certified forest guide, back with us to kick it off just right by leading a walk at Downs Farm Preserve on January 29th from 11:30a.m. -1:00 p.m.
In January, we explore the deep rest of winter by opening our senses to the cold, crisp air, the muted colors and other wintry sights. We’ll notice how sound travels differently without the comfort of the leaves on the trees, the crunch of those leaves underfoot and more. It’s a playful time, too, with or without snow on the ground. We may create some forest art and enjoy the beauty of the wetlands along Downs Creek.
Some trees and plants are already planning for spring with tight buds that will overwinter. Maybe there’s something you’re planning, too?
Your forest guide always brings a seasonal herbal infusion to conclude the walk. In January, it’s something earthy like elderberry, rose hips, or pine needle tea. Never any caffeine. Our walks always end with a gratitude offering, shared words of noticing this special time of the seasons.
