The Petty Project is a a collaboration Rochester area musicians led by Eric Ferreri with Larry Kovnat, Paul Stutz, Tim McCullum and Joe Seidman. For the Avon Park Theater, we consider it a natural progression from our start just over a year ago with the music of the Beatles (Mr. Mustard), to the music of the Eagles (Lyin' Eyes) to the more recent history of rock and rolll music. Tom Petty's tragic death in 2016 marked the end of a brilliant career that spanned 4 decades. Solo or with the Heartbreakers, Petty sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His greatest gift was arguably his ability to reflect the best of Americana with simple lyrics that are easy to sing along to ("I put the pedal down to make some time") as well as clever turns of phrase ("You tangle my emotions") that pull the listening experience deeper. Tom Petty interpreted stories in a way that made the mundane extraordinary and turned common folk into heroes.
