Open to all levels, this class will explore acrobatic dance movements which can be used as a solo or as a duet. Sam and Courtney will cover the foundations of movement, rhythm and working with gravity as to guide students into more complex skills and creativity. We will touch on basic adagio/body to body balance and contact movements while integrating freedom for transitional movement to and from skills, such as from grounded movements to lifts or jumps. This will be a fun all-inclusive exploration of movement fusing dance, acrobatics and partnering. About the Teachers: SAM TRIBBLE Sam was awarded All American honors and inducted into Sacramento’s Hall Of Fame for outstanding athletes in 1982-84 while attending UC Davis. He finished his collegiate career at CSUF Leading the Titans to two Nationals as team captain. As an adult Sam started his performing arts career with flying trapeze and was later introduced to the Art of Cyr wheel in addition to Acro/Adagio. Sam continues to train Junior Olympic athletes and participates in the Professional Development Program for USA Gymnastics. Sam was the first US Worlds team coach for the sport of Cyr Wheel (2013 and 2015) and has created the Progressive Axis Training (PAT)tm technique for teaching skill progression for the art of Cyr. He is certified through the IRV as a technical judge and served on the board of USA Wheel Gymnastics as a technical advisor. Sam was the owner and head coach of Giants Gymnastics, a recreational and competitive mens and women’s USA gymnastics club from 1995 to 2010. Sam continues to coach athletes of all ages for bodyweight training, alternative fitness and several art forms. Athletes have come as far as Russia, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, France, Switzerland, Kuwait, Korea and all across the US to seek his hands on training and sports mentoring. Sam is a firm believer in Sports Mental Training and is a certified hypnotherapist. Sam continues to travel internationally to perform Acro (Adagio) and the art of Cyr, in addition to hosting teacher training and intensive around the country and abroad for fitness and sports mental training. COURTNEY GIANNONE Courtney Giannone is a professional dancer, choreographer, Cyr wheel artist and movement instructor based in San Diego. Originally from New York City, Courtney holds a BFA in dance from Fordham University and The Ailey School, and has also trained at Joffrey Ballet, Martha Graham, Peridance, STEPS and Broadway Dance Center. She has performed full – time for over a decade in shows/ companies including Queen of the Night, Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, Harry Connick Jr “Harry TV”, Company XIV, Quixotic Fusion, Buglisi Dance Theater, Kazuko Hirabayashi Dance Theater, Pascal Rioult, STREB Extreme Action, Diavolo, Martha Graham, and Alvin Ailey. She has also performed the works of Robert Battle, Milton Myers, Max Luna, Jane Comfort, Lara Wilson and Malashock Dance Company. Courtney is world champion in competitive wheel gymnastics for Team USA. Courtney is a certified instructor of Horton Technique, GYROTONIC ®, Cyr Wheel and also instructs Modern and Contemporary Dance. She currently teaches at Golden State Ballet Academy, San Diego Ballet and is a guest instructor at SDSCPA. She travels internationally to perform, teach, and choreograph at conventions such As Cyrs and Beers, and schools such as Circus Juventas and Idyllwild Arts Academy. Her choreographic productions have been performed at Youth American Grand Prix, Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, San Diego Circus Center, Circus Juventas, Malashock, BEAT BROOKLYN, Galapagos Arts Space, Dixon Place, STREB, California State University of Long Beach, Cornish College of the Arts, and The Ailey School.
