West Virginia GEAR UP Camp Supervisors will provide on-site services for the 2023 GEAR UP U Summer Academy. Camp Supervisors will be responsible for providing: GEAR UP U Staff Support – Camp Supervisors will oversee and assist with the implementation of camp schedules and supervise assigned Camp Counselors; keeping them on target at all times. Academic Support – Camp Supervisors encourage students to remain in school and achieve the standards necessary to enroll in postsecondary education. Camp Supervisors are asked to support the WV GEAR UP program goals and objectives. Camp Supervisors will collaborate with WV GEAR UP staff and GEAR UP U staff as needed, or upon request.Goal Development and Encouragement – Camp Supervisors will assist GEAR UP U staff to implement leadership engagement and mentoring activities as designed. Accountability and Positive Examples – Camp Supervisors will serve as a reliable resource for Camp Counselors, student campers, and other staff members by being honest, trustworthy and dependable. Camp Supervisors are to report any and all inappropriate activity or behavior directly to the Camp Director immediately. Reporting - Camp Supervisors will be required to assist with attendance records and reports for the duration of GEAR UP U. Camp Supervisors will be provided a detailed training session on June 20th, 2023 that outlines program goals and expectations. Camp Supervisors will be compensated $1,000.00, allocated in one increment upon completion of GEAR UP U. Camp Supervisors may be asked to provide feedback and testimonials. Due to the nature of GEAR UP U, staff cannot have days or time off for the duration of camp. The position is a 24-hour a day role. All Camp Supervisors must reside in the residence halls for the duration of camp. No alcohol consumption, tobacco products or drug use permitted at any time during the program – violating this policy is basis for dismissal.
