Description

This big boy is really struggling with kennel stress. Despite the shelter having him on a special high calorie recovery diet and special treats he is not eating well and is not gaining weight. He desperately needs out of the shelter. Even though he gets great care from the shelter staff he is not wired for that environment and is really suffering. This also makes his less appealing to people selecting their new pet. We are not able to foster him but brought him home for a day to de-stress. It only took him about an hour and you could really see him relaxing. He did very well indoors, knows how to use a dog door, loves affection and did not try to escape the fenced yard. He just needs to be in a home. His adoption fee is sponsored so it is $25 to adopt Harley but you must fill out an application and be approved. If someone wants to help they could donate a small amount towards Harley and the sponsorship could be raised to star sponsorship so there would be no adoption fee at all. That might help him get a home. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested negative for heartworm. If you go to meet him please spend some time with him outside as he is a different dog out of the kennel. If you can't commit to a long term adoption would you consider fostering? If that is not an option can you become a volunteer and take Harley for walks or play with him in a play yard? Information on becoming a volunteer can be found at www.joplinhumane.org. Please call or visit the shelter for information on helping this guy out. Shelter description: Harley is a 3 - 5 yr old male Hound mix. He has a high energy level, so he will need plenty of daily exercise. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and comes when called for snuggles and kisses. Harley does pull on a leash, but this can be resolved with obedience training. He is food motivated and knows the command sit. He does not mix well with other high energy dogs, but mixes with lower energy dogs in a kennel. Due to this, a meet-and-greet will be required with a potential adopter's dogs before the adoption process can be completed. He is intensely interested in cats in the shelter environment.
