7/11 scanning id’s

Just a Rant!! Stopped at the local 7/11 to get some smokes. Had to show Identification n top it off they scanned it. The guy behind counter didn’t have a clue why he had to scan it. Wouldn’t sell me smokes unless I gave I’d to him. I’m 68 yrs n have a grey beard.. What the reason 7/11 scans id’s?? Are they selling the info. Anyone else have issue with them scanning if?? Very intrusive into personel life for a pack of smokes. Signed a pissed off old man.
