Description

If you ever attended sleep-away summer camp, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to reminisce with Eric Glickman, Croton resident and author of Camp Pock-a-Wocknee and the DYN-O-MITE Summer of ‘77. He’ll be joined in conversation by his brother Richie. Camp Pock-a-Wocknee and the DYN-O-MITE Summer of ’77  is a 300-page coming-of-age graphic novel celebrating the magic, memories, and mishegas that make up summers at Jewish sleepaway camp. Mashing up a nostalgic mood similar to The Wonder Years with the teenage rambunctiousness of a Superbad, Camp Pock-a-Wocknee combines cute, black & white, comic strip-style art with a “not-for-kids” story to capture the tension created when the innocence of childhood crashes into the messiness of adolescence.  Books will be available for purchase and signing. The event is free, but we appreciate early RSVPs to help with planning. About Eric and Richie Eric Glickman is a long-time resident of Croton where he and his wife, Melissa raised three children. After graduating from Syracuse University with a BFA, he worked for 37 years as a creative in advertising and helped convince millions of people to eat fried chicken in a bucket, meaty soup in a can, and cheesy crackers shaped like fish. In May, he will receive a Masters degree from NYU in Art Education+Community Practice. Richie Glickman is also a long-time resident of Croton and continues to be a creative in the advertising industry. Throughout their childhood, Eric and Richie spent 8 weeks every summer at Jewish sleepaway camp in rural Pennsylvania.
