Looking for small/medium dog

I'm looking for a smaller dog, I have children so they have to be nice. As far as training goes, I would prefer trained but I work from home so I have time to train. I've always had a dog companion my whole life but due to kids I haven't adopt another since my last passed and I feel although they're still young our family as a whole is ready for another addition.
