Description

White Crate is proud to present a limited-capacity performance by Bay Area synth pop band Cold Beat at the iconic Grace Cathedral in downtown San Francisco. This performance marks the band’s first major performance of material from their album War Garden, which was written and recorded over Zoom in the early months of the pandemic. The distance caused by the pandemic strengthened the bond between members Hannah Lew, Sean Monaghan, Kyle King, and Luciano Talpini Aita, resulting in an album that’s a remarkable leap from their earlier guitar-forward work. Following multiple albums and EPs, plus collaborations with notable contemporaries and icons such as Los Angeles artist Cooper Saver and Cabaret Voltaire’s Stephen Mallinder, War Garden presents Cold Beat as a fully realized unit. They openly embrace a synthesized landscape with rich harmonies and 80s pop flourishes, all while maintaining a complex emotional depth. For this performance, Cold Beat’s four core members will be accompanied by the War Garden Choir as well as Christopher Keady, Interim Director of Music at Grace Cathedral. Keady will be performing alongside the band on the cathedral’s 7,466-pipe Charles B. Alexander Memorial Organ (1934), one of the first American classic style organs and among the largest church organs in the West.
