ABOUT THE ARTIST
He started his career in Oyster Bay, Long Island as a boy with a six pack in his hand. But Billy Joel ended up becoming one of the most successful recording artists ever with over 150 million albums sold worldwide making him the sixth best selling recording artist in the U. S. Joel got his career off to a decent enough start with the hit single “Piano Man,” but it was his 1977 release, The Stranger, that catapulted him to stardom with four hit singles. And from that success onward, his career has never faltered. Since January 2014 he has enjoyed a residency at Madison Square Garden, playing the 20,000+ seats there once a month.
For our next tribute, Great Moments in Vinyl brings back the album that made Billy Joel a star, The Stranger, and fills out the night with a selection hits and album tracks from throughout his career.
This band this time features GMIV veterans Greg Woods on lead vocals and piano, Daniel Rausch on keyboards and vocals, John Bowes on saxes and flute, and Jim Barclay on drums with bandleader and storyteller William Lindsey Cochran on bass.
