Why Off-Dry January? The wines of Alsace, Germany, and Austria are often highly misunderstood due to decades old marketing that continues to reinforce an incorrect stereotype of these beautiful (and not always sweet!) wines.
Join Southern Wine Academy for a two-class series (or chose one if you can't make both) focusing on the wines from Alsace, Germany, and Austria. Wines in these regions are made in a wide range from incredibly dry with super high acidity, to luscious and sweet.
Class One: December 10, 6:30-8:00; Most people think Riesling is a sweet wine. Actually, well-made Riesling wines showcase the high acidity that originally made this grape variety popular. The "sweet" Rieslings found in the supermarker have added sugar to reach a population that prefers a sweeter wine (and it can be delicious), however, this unfortunately gave Riesling an unfair stereotype as a sweet wine. Our first class has been highly curated to demonstrate the incredible range of Riesling and will focus on 5 German Rieslings of very different styles. You will leave with a new understand of Riesling, German Wines, and a new appreciation for this beautiful and diverse grape variety.
Class Two: December 28 3:00-4:30; Our second class highlights the wines from each of these regions and will include examples of both the beautiful white and red wines produced here. How does this fit into Off-Dry January? Like Riesling, often the wines from these regions are thought of as sweet wines which means wine lovers are missing out on so many delicious, diverse, and exciting wines. Let us open your wine knowledge and appreciation to a whole new world of wine!
Each class is $65 per person, or the series can be purchased for a discounted rate of $110. Classes are limited to 8 people - get your tickets early before they're gone!
