A presentation exploring the Latin American History in Battle Creek and Southwest Michigan.
Hear the story of Alberto Garcia who was adopted by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and Ella Eaton in1898 from Zacatecas, Mexico. He would later graduate from the American Medical Missionary College in Battle Creek in 1910 with a doctor of medicine degree, and he would go on to receive a second medical degree from the Tulane University Medical School in 1914.
He became known for treating patients of any background whether or not they were able to pay for treatment. He served as a surgeon in the Mexican Revolution, and in Texas, he started a Spanish-language newspaper with his wife, Eva. They became national and international advocates for human rights.
