LIGHT ASYLUM Shannon Funchess is a self-taught, interdisciplinary performance artistand the founder, vocalist, producer of internationally revered, darkelectronic music project LIGHT ASYLUM. Founded in Brooklyn, NewYork in 2007, performances have culminated in traditional and nontraditionalspaces such as underground raves, museums, galleries,music festivals and nightclubs. Her journey began in a gospel choir of asouthern baptist church at the age of nine. With a passion forcollaboration, Funchess has joined forces with peers and allies aroundthe globe through multiple platforms, genres and disciplines. Fromrecording studio vocal features, remixes and production for artists TheKnife, Tv on the Radio, Elysia Crampton Chuquimia among others, shehas also worked as a touring musician and dancer for theaforementioned artists The knife, supported bands the likes of LCDSound System, Coco Rosie, !!!, Clan of Xymox, Peaches, TR/ST, touredextensively, internationally and performed improvisational live musicwith electronic music pioneer Laurie Anderson.
