When adults and children have resources, they can leave behind the destructive cycles of uncertainty and chaos. Transformation is a process and it must be invited into our lives. When ordinary people choose to do extraordinary things, they transform their lives and the lives of others around them. While most have good intentions, life distracts us from what really matters. This keynote explores the concept of “little and often” because that’s what really matters. MORNING SESSIONS (choose one)Resilience: The Key to Success by Peggy HoimeEdith Grotberg, a senior researcher with the International Resilience Project says, “Resilience is important because it is the human capacity to face, overcome and be strengthened or even transformed by the adversities of life.” As educators, we are the gatekeepers of future generations. The question for us then becomes, how can I help children become more resilient? This session will give you practical tools to teach children how to be resilient so we can set them on the path where they can fully live and reach their full potential. What Children Do Naturally by Johanna Booth-MinerNature is human nature’s natural tranquilizer. Before the age of 12, children have a strong sensitivity and interest in the natural world. This session examines the structure of a nature-based program and how to implement the gold standards of nature-based learning into your curriculum, as identified by the North American Environmental Association. AFTERNOON SESSIONS (choose one)Movement Makes Sense by Erin FournierAccording to the latest research, the key to healing the effects of stress, distress and trauma is the embodiment circuitry of the brain. Embodiment movements unlock the pathway to proficient learning and effective healing. This session examines the components of movement through a research-based approach known as educational kinesiology. It is an active session of simple movements so come in comfortable clothing and sneakers. Let’s Take It Outdoors by Johanna Booth-MinerThere is a growing body of evidence that links nature-based learning with reduced effects of ADHD, higher scores on standardized tests, improved physical fitness, a more developed understanding of science and math concepts, and better academic performance overall. And while all of these facts are positive and useful for our children, we believe that being a part of nature is wired in the essence of every human being. The pace of contemporary living has left many disconnected from their core essence. In this session, we will explore nature-based learning through Coyote’s Guide. It is hands-on and interactive, so come dressed for the weather. We will provide coffee, tea and water, as well as a small snack. Lunch is on your own and there are many restaurants in the area.SPACE IS LIMITED TO 75 PARTICIPANTS SO REGISTER EARLY!Registration begins at 8:30am. REFUNDS: We will issue a 50% refund on tuition for cancellations made via email before January 23, 2023. After that date, there are no refunds.
